Percent Off Calculator
Enter the original price and the discount. Add a second discount to see how stacked offers really combine.
How a discount is calculated
A discount of d% leaves (100 − d)% of the price. The final price is original × (1 − d/100) and the saving is original × d/100. A 25% discount on $120 leaves $90 and saves $30.
Stacked discounts are not additive
Two 20% discounts do not make 40%. The second discount applies to the already reduced price: 0.8 × 0.8 = 0.64, an effective discount of 36%. This is why "extra 20% off sale items" is worth less than it sounds.
Discount or markup?
A 20% discount followed by a 20% increase returns to 96% of the original price, not 100%. To recover a discount exactly, divide by the remaining fraction: after 20% off, the required increase is 25%.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate 25% off?
Multiply the price by 0.75, or subtract 25% of the price. 25% off $120 is $90.
Are two 20% discounts the same as 40%?
No. The second discount applies to the reduced price, so two 20% discounts equal 36% off.
How do I find the original price from the sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount/100). A $90 price after 25% off came from $120.
Does the calculator include tax?
No. It works on the price before tax. Add sales tax or VAT after the discount.
